COVID-19 Update

Last Updated: September 8

Here at Upscape, we are still up and running, planning, talking with partners, researching new products and handling reservations. We want to assure you that we’re taking all possible precautions to keep the team safe, working from our respective homes, and keeping in communication via online platforms. Starting in September, we’re going to welcome some staff back to working at our new office, which we moved into just days before everyone started working from home. Team members will now have the option to come into the office, where we’ll be using masks, single occupancy offices, and social distancing and frequent sanitizing to keep everyone in good health.

Situation in CHILE

Here in Chile, the borders are currently closed (except for Chilean nationals and residents), with a 14-day quarantine upon arrival. Santiago and Valparaíso residents are in quarantine, in an effort to control the virus’ spread, while in the less populated areas of the Atacama in the north and Patagonia in the south, there is no quarantine, and the virus has been decreasing. Some studies predict that by September, we’ll be partially reopening and that by November, international flights will be available for citizens of other countries to fly to Chile. We are closely monitoring the situation and keeping in touch with all of our partners here on the ground to be attentive to any and all changes.

Reservations, Deposits & Cancellations

With new reservations the terms and conditions provide travelers greater flexibility by requiring only a 10% deposit to confirm a reservation and allowing for payment in full be made just 30 days before check-in. With regards to cancelations and rebookings we have update our policies to reflect the current situation we are facing in Chile.

Safety Protocols for our Travelers

When it’s time for visitors to come back to Chile, Upscape will be following the strictest protocols as recommended by both health and tourism authorities, erring on the side of caution. We have the World Travel and Tourism Council SafeTravel tour operator protocols in place. These protocols will be in place from the very beginning throughout the entire trip to make sure that travelers´ safety is paramount. We will limit our suppliers to those who also conform to these protocols and work only with those that can assure us complete compliance.

Remote and Private: The Upscape Way of Traveling

We consider ourselves lucky at Upscape because our focus on remote destinations with private groups easily lend themselves to travel in the times of COVID. Our private homes, for example, cater to your small group with a very small set of hand-picked staff (who have also been observing health protocols). Similarly, and even more remotely, the private camps ensure no contact with anyone other than your Upscape guides and your own traveling companions as you take in Chile’s natural splendor. Private boats offer an additional level of protection, where your floating home is surrounded by pristine waters and no other humans for miles.

Just a few spots left for Solar Eclipse

December is just six months away, and during that month, from a small set of exclusive hand-selected homes, Upscape will be hosting groups to catch a rare full solar eclipse in Chile’s lake region. Come to the south of Chile to take in the magic of the eclipse from the exclusive lakeside of Colico, a lake fringed with native trees and flowering bushes. The lake gets its name from a word that means “red waters” in the local indigenous language, this taken from the emblematic rosy sunsets seen over the lake’s glittering surface.
